Next-Level Lifting: PALFINGER’s latest Marine Crane Generation

PALFINGER, the world’s leading producer of innovative lifting solutions, is making waves with its latest product update – the renewed PK 6.501 M, a foldable knuckle boom crane. As part of a comprehensive redesign project, all PALFINGER MARINE cranes are being brought up to the latest production technology and equipped with the latest control system. A full-scale model will be presented for the first time at Europort in Rotterdam from November 7 to 10, 2023.

On a crane, the distance between the clevis pin and the cylinder pivot point changes during the motion sequence. Due to this change, the crane loses up to 70 % of its performance. PALFINGER took up the challenge of improving performance by redesigning its foldable knuckle boom crane (PK) series. The journey began last year with the redesign of the PK 19.001 M, followed by the PK 16.001 M and PK 13.001 M. At Europort, the spotlight will be on the PK 6.501 M, the fourth and latest redesign in the new PK generation, which is making its grand debut. The PK 6.501 M boasts several enhancements, including improved outreach and optimized lifting geometry. Designed to operate reliably on crew transfer vessels (CTV) and other applications as well as in various segments such as aquaculture, the new crane series features a single Power Link system. This innovative linkage system ensures a constant lifting moment regardless of the boom position, resulting in a remarkable increase in lifting capacity. With this technology, the crane can lift its maximum load in all positions, offering greater outreach, compact transport size, consistent lifting force and stable operating speed.

PALTRONIC: Everything under control

The PK 6.501 M complies with the latest EN 12999 standard and meets the requirements of the relevant classification agencies. With the maximum outreach of 11.1 meters, it offers a load capacity of 380 kg. At close range, the load capacity is increased to 1640 kg at 3.5 meters. The crane is also available with the option of PALTRONIC 40, an IP67-rated control system that ensures safe operation even in rough sea and weather conditions. The compact design of the PAL40 system, with the controller seamlessly integrated into the operator terminal, not only saves space but also simplifies installation. For the coming year, PALFINGER is currently working on further updates of the PK generation and PAL40 to include completely new functions.

Europort: Where innovation takes the helm

Europort 2023, held in the European port city of Rotterdam, serves as a global maritime hub where cutting-edge technology and complex shipbuilding solutions come together. The exhibition has a strong focus on high-tech vessels, including dredging vessels, naval ships, workboats, inland navigation vessels, offshore support vessels, and super yachts. Jarle Sørstrønen, Product Line Leader Marine Solutions at PALFINGER about the company’s presence at this year’s Europort: “With around 26,000 visitors, Europort is one of the world’s largest maritime B2B platforms worldwide. PALFINGER’s redesigned PK 6.501 M crane is an industry highlight at this year’s Europort fair and underlines our company’s commitment to pioneering advances in maritime technology. We invite you to visit us at stand 4202, experience the future of maritime technology first-hand, and join PALFINGER MARINE in shaping the future of the maritime industry.”
