Norwegian yard Kleven Werft has completed the first of six sister anchor handling tug and supply (AHTS) vessels built to the particulars of compatriot architect Salt Ship Design’s Salt 200 Starfish class.

The first in class Maersk Master was delivered to Maersk Supply Service in Q1 this year. The vessel will be utilised in decommissioning work in the North Sea, though it is also capable of undertaking oil recovery and firefighting duties, and has been classed to FiFi 1 and Ice 1A notations.

With approximately 17,665kW at Maersk Master's disposal, the 4,500dwt, 95m x 25m AHTS vessel features a bollard pull (bp) in excess of 250tonnes, the operator claims; the vessel logged 246tonnes bp continuously during her sea trials. The propulsive arrangement includes a pair of 7,340kW CP propellers and five 1,200kW tunnel thrusters – two located aft, three forward – and the vessel has also been equipped with a DP2 system.

Maersk Master features 944m² of deck space in total, some 822m² of which is uncovered. The deck has been strengthened to 10tonnes per m² forward and 15tonnes per m² aft. The vessel is equipped with an anchor-handling winch with a capacity of 450tonnes as well as a dedicated ROV hangar. The Salt 200 Starfish can accommodate up to 52 persons and approximately 1,200m³ of chain lockers, 1,050m³ of fuel, 1,000m³ of potable water and 620m³ of liquid mud.

The remaining five Salt 200 Starfish vessels will be handed over to Maersk throughout the course of 2017, with the second scheduled for delivery by the end of Q2.
