French boatbuilder Piriou has been commissioned to produce eight sister tuna longline fishing vessels for Navimon, an operator and long-standing Piriou customer based within the French territory of New Caledonia in the South Pacific Ocean.

According to Vincent Faujour, group general manager at Piriou, this particular contract has enabled his group to “maintain and increase our presence in the sector of artisanal and industrial fishing both in the French Overseas Territories and in France”.

Each of the forthcoming vessels will measure 20.7m x 6.9m overall, and will be capable of storing up to 75m3  of stock in total, divided between a 50m3-capacity hold kept refrigerated to 0⁰C and a 25m3-capacity hold capable of maintaining temperatures as low as -20⁰C. Each of the eight boats will feature a depth of 3.6m from the main deck and will draw approximately 2.6m.

Each vessel will incorporate diesel propulsion, resulting in a total power output of 340kW at 1,800rpm. The builder cites crew comfort and security as constituting primary considerations when assembling these boat types.

The first two vessels in this series are expected to be delivered next year, with the complete run of eight to be completed by the end of 2020. All eight vessels are expected to replace the original fleet of vessels that Piriou delivered to Navimon between 1998 and 2000.
