Offshore Marine Technology: 2nd Quarter 2020

Hamburg-based wind turbine builder United Wind Logistics (UWL) has taken delivery of the first of two new deck carriers, ordered for the transportation of turbines to offshore sites.

 

Built by China's Jiangsu Zhenjiang Shipyard, the 10,000dwt BoldWind has an overall length of 148.5m and a design draught of 5.6m. The vessel's deck area has been strengthened to 20tonnes per m2, and spans 128m in length and 28m in width.

 

The vessel incorporates a diesel-electric power arrangement, including four IMO Tier III-compliant MAN diesel models, fitted with scrubber technology. The electrical power components were supplied by ABB.

 

For its maiden voyage, BoldWind has been tasked with carrying Vestas wind turbine blades from China to Norway for Danish logistics firm DSV Panalpina.The second UWL vessel, to be named BraveWind, is under build at the same yard and scheduled for delivery in September this year.
