Lifting and drilling specialist Huisman has confirmed delivery of the first crane to have been manufactured at its Huisman Brazil production facility, situated in Navegantes, in Brazil’s south.

The deck knuckle boom crane is the first of two such cranes ordered by compatriot shipbuilder Vard Promar, for installation aboard a pair of 140m x 28m sister pipelay support vessels. The twins, Skandi Olinda and Skandi Recife, were ordered jointly by DOF Group and Technip, as part of a consortium deal. The deck crane features a SWL of 50tonnes at 18m outreach, or 25tonnes at 32m. The second crane will leave Huisman Brazil shortly, the company says.

Huisman Brazil will also furnish each of these sisters with a 50tonne-capacity subsea knuckle boom crane and a 2,500tonne flex-pipe storage basket, while Huisman’s Netherlands division supplies the pair with two 340tonne Vertical Lay System (VLS) pipelay systems.

Each pipelay support vessel will feature a 1,800m² deck area, strengthened to 10tonnes per m², a 2,500tonne underdeck carousel and a 340tonne lay tower, and will accommodate up to 120 offshore workers.
