Offshore Marine Technology: 3rd Quarter 2018Aker Arctic

Despite conducting the demo in this facility’s ice tank, however, the model was assessed in ice-free water.
Equipped with sensors, the wireless, battery-powered model, which measured 3.12m x 0.82m, completed tasks such as detecting obstacles in the water, as well as automatically mooring itself to a target pier without human operator intervention.

A spokesperson for Aker Arctic tells Offshore Marine Technology: “The model was equipped with two propulsion devices and was electrically driven. The main issue was to demonstrate the vessel’s capability to moor itself, navigate and avoid unknown floating obstacles and to show that data integration and control between the various devices can be done effectively.” The spokesperson adds: “All this can be applied to any size of the vessel.”
