Assuming it progresses as far as construction, the US Navy could soon be procuring a totally new class of amphibious vessel that would be much smaller, but more manoeuvrable than existing units.
The US Navy named the John Lewis class replenishment oiler, the future USNS John Lewis (T-AO 205), on 17 July 2021. Speaker of the House of Representatives, Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi, delivered the principal address.
The first example of the US Navy’s next-generation aircraft carrier, USS Gerald R Ford (CVN 78), successfully completed full ship shock trials (FSSTs) in August 2021.

Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME) announced in July 2021 that it had signed a cooperation agreement with Hanjin Heavy Industries for the design and construction of a light aircraft carrier (CVX) for the Republic of Korea Navy.
