Damen Shipyards Group reports that it has delivered its latest Combi Freighter (CF) 3850 type newbuild to German short-sea shipping firm Reederei Gerdes. Christened Holger G, and designed to carry both bulk and breakbulk cargoes, the vessel marks the 11th Damen delivery to Reederei Gerdes, and follows the handover of sister vessel Helga G in July.
Constructed at Ba Son Shipyard in Vietnam, Holger G has a length of 89.75m, a breadth of 12.5m and a draught of 5.48m. The 3,800dwt vessel features a sizeable, box-shaped hold, measuring 62.5m (l) x 10.1m (w) x 8.4m (h) and occupying 5,250m3. The hold is “combined with multiple positioning options for the two grain bulkheads and tween deck”, Damen adds.
The newbuild’s propulsive arrangement includes an ABC 6DCZ main engine, rated 1,104kW, plus a fixed-pitch propeller and a 280kW bow thruster, enabling a speed of approximately 11.8knots.
Holger G‘s classification was assigned to DNV. A further two CF 3850 vessels are under construction at Ba Son, and, upon delivery, both will be operated by European coaster chartering firm over-C, which is now working in partnership with Reederei Gerdes.

‘Hirschhorn’ will undergo a complete replacement of its propulsive set-up, wheelhouse and accommodation space
Meanwhile, the Concordia Damen yard in the Netherlands has embarked on a refit contract for the 135m dry cargo vessel Hirschhorn, built in 1981 and owned by German inland shipping company Reederei Deymann.
The refit will see the vessel’s aft section cut off in front of the accommodation, and the single-engine/single-propeller shaft set-up replaced by a twin-shaft propulsion system and two diesel-electric 630kWe engines. The accommodation section and wheelhouse will also be completely rebuilt for enhanced crew comfort, visibility and ergonomics, Concordia Damen says.
