The Institute of Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering (formerly called Faculty of Ocean Engineering and Ship Technology), Faculty of Mechanical and Ocean Engineering, Gdańsk University of Technology is the only institute in Poland, which has continuously educated and provided scientific, research and development activities since 1904 in the field of Ocean Engineering, Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering. At the moment, it has about 850 undergraduate, 250 postgraduate and 17 Ph.D. students in three fields of studies: Ocean Engineering, Power Engineering and Maritime Transport and Logistics. The institute employs 80 full-time and 40 part-time academic staff.

The core fields of the institute activities are structured within: Theory and Ship Design, Ship Manufacturing Technology, Quality Systems and Materials, Hydromechanics and Hydroacoustics, Ship Power Plants, Marine Mechatronics, Marine Control and Energy. The faculty staff actively participate in numerous conferences and seminars being involved in different committees or working groups of IMO, ITTC, ISSC, PRADS, WEGEMT and RINA. The institute has a wide range of cooperation with the classification societies and industrial partners. Some examples are: General Electric, DNV, ABS, DeltaMarine, REMONTOWA and CRIST.

The main available facilities at the institute are:

1. Ship Hull Laboratory,
2. International Student Research Centre on Iawa Lake,
3. Ship Hydromechanics Laboratory including towing tank and cavitation tunnel,
4. Laboratory of Deep-Sea Technology and Composite Materials,
5. Materials Science Laboratory,
6. Ship Automation and Turbine Propulsion Laboratory,
7. Ship Equipment, Machinery and Power Plant Laboratory

The institute provides also Centre of Maritime Military Technologies within which numerous solutions and systems like as Remotely Controlled Underwater Vehicles for different purposes are designed, built and tested. The institute delivers also 1-year postgraduate courses in the fields of ISO Standards and Quality Management, Oil and Gas Engineering, and Marine Wind Energy.
