Potential time commitment: Varies according to workload but could be up to a maximum of half a day per week.

Responsible to: Editor in Chief
Role specific requirements:
• Compliance with the RINA Code of Conduct, Vision and Values.
• Compliance with the RINA Editorial Guidelines.
This role involves:
• Provide mater-specific expertise in a particular field and collaborate with peer
reviewers and the Editor-in-Chief to make informed decisions on manuscript acceptance or rejection.
• Provide intellectual oversight of the review process for papers in own area of
expertise including reviewer selection and suggestions, assess reviewer comments and make recommendations to authors on changes required based on reviewer comments.
• Fostering strong relationships with the academic community, researchers, and
professionals in the field and staying informed about industry trends, emerging
research areas, and best practices in academic publishing.
• Provide advice to the awards committee on the suitability of papers in own area of experience for the various RINA publication awards. Promote the IJME, its quality and visibility, including performance in relevant citation indexes, metrics and rankings.
Training and Support:
RINA will provide training for the role and adequate support through the secretariat.
Key skills required of a Contributing Editor are:
• Adequate time to contribute to the effective undertaking of the role – in particular, to be able to find time on a regular basis to facilitate timely processing of papers from submission to review.
• Experience reviewing high-quality academic papers in International Journals, including the International Journal of Maritime Engineering.
• Authorship and co-authorship of high-quality academic papers in International Journals, including the International Journal of Maritime Engineering.
• A broad appreciation and understanding of relevant citation indexes, metrics and rankings important for high-quality international Journals.
Term in role:
Initial term of three years. This can be extended with the agreement of both the Associate Editor and the Editor in Chief.
