Crossing the Atlantic – a rower’s perspective
Presented by Kevin Watkins
Background
Kevin is an experienced marine engineer with 30 years of Royal Navy service, Kevin now works for Nova Systems. Kevin will provide a captain’s account of the challenges of rowing across the Atlantic Ocean in a mixed crew 3-person rowing boat from La Gomera to Antigua (3000nm). This talk focuses on the resilience required to face the personal, physical, mental, and technical challenges. He will include the three years of build-up and planning to get to the start line of the World’s Toughest Row formerly the Talisker Whisky Challenge.
Presenter
Kevin has been a mariner since the age of 16 and this challenge was inspired by a visit to Shackleton’s grave at Grytviken on South Georgia. This sparked his passion for taking on an extreme challenge and providing support to a charity close to the teams’ hearts
