Background

Giddeon York is currently the Professional Lead for Operational Inspection working for the Office for Nuclear Regulation. Responsible for all front-line site-facing operational nuclear safety inspectors in the United Kingdom. Giddeon’s talk provides a whistle-stop tour covering the development of nuclear power in the United Kingdom. Discussing key historical moments and experiences. Gideon will also be providing insight on the decisions and individuals that brought us to the place we are today.

Presenter

Gideon is a former Royal Navy Engineering Officer (nuclear submariner), serving 15 years in a mixture of sea-going appointments, with roles as the technical authority for sealed atmosphere control, the maintenance authority for SSN submarine classes, and the technical lead for submarine disposal. Following his Naval service, Gideon moved into consultancy including systems engineering oversight, technology maturation projects, civil transport systems problem solving, and nuclear engineering design key design making. For the last 10 years, Gideon has been employed by the Office for Nuclear Regulation, with a focus on front-line site facing inspection. Site responsibilities include full nuclear life cycle, gas-cooled reactors, waste recycling and recovery facilities, nuclear and chemical reprocessing plants.
