London Branch Presentation – “The Dangers of Cargo Liquefaction to Ships” by Simon Mackay M.Eng, C.Eng, MRINA Senior Naval Architect ABL
A presentation on the risks associated with liquefaction of dry bulk cargoes when loaded onboard ships, one of the major causes of loss of life onboard bulk carriers. Between 2013 – 2022 the lives of 70 seafarers were reportedly lost due to liquefaction incidents.
How liquified cargoes affect the safety of a typical bulk carrier vessel will be discussed, along with potential design changes to mitigate the risks. Also, the regulatory framework currently in place to prevent such incidents will be covered.
