Direct Current Distribution – Designing for the Future

Direct Current Distribution technology is currently seeing a resurgence in popularity in the maritime industry as vessel owners and operators seek to make most efficient use of increasingly diverse power generation and storage systems. DC distribution also enables designers to utilise the full potential of high powered system components in a more efficient and controlled manner.

This talk will introduce the concept of a DC Grid system, and detail the advantages and efficiencies that can be gained from its use.

The talk will be presented in person by Borre Gundersen, Global Solution Manager at ABB Systems, and one of the most experienced engineers operating in this developing field today. Having been instrumental in developing the required equipment earlier in his career, Borre now works with clients to design and implement this technology on vessels ranging from ferries to superyachts and cruise vessels.

The talk is free and open to all those interested. It will be hosted at the Liverpool John Moores University and on Zoom.
