Professor Tony Roskilly PhD CEng FIMarEST
Chair of Energy Systems, Durham University

The UK National Clean Maritime Research Hub (UK-MaRes Hub) aims to accelerate the decarbonisation and elimination of air pollution from maritime activity in ports and at sea.

The UK-MaRes Hub is supported by the Department for Transport and the Engineering and Physical Science Research Council and is a new £21m partnership between 13 universities and over 70 industrial, civic, and international organisations.

The UK-MaRes Hub will harness the depth, breadth and diversity of research being undertaken in the UK to foster collaboration and drive forward innovation.

The Hub will focus on fundamental research to produce:
• New and efficient low-carbon power & propulsion systems.
• Advances in the scale up in marine fuels & their safe use
• Decarbonised energy systems, ports & infrastructure.
• Reduced energy demand through advanced vessel design and
increased efficiency.
• Advances in maritime operations, exploitation of digitisation.

Professor Tony Roskilly is Director of the UK National Clean Maritime Research Hub and has over 30 years of experience in the design, control, and operational optimisation of energy systems directly relevant to the decarbonisation of the maritime sector.
