The new cruiser will Porsche’s 800V Premium Platform Electric (PPE) automotive drive technology

Sports car manufacturer Porsche and Austria’s Frauscher Shipyard have announced that they aim to put a limited-edition electric day cruiser on the water next year. Set for an initial release of 25 units, the Frauscher x Porsche 850 Fantom Air will borrow features from Porsche’s Taycan electric sport saloon series while incorporating the drive technology of its forthcoming Macan car range.

Frauscher Shipyard has been building electric boats since 1955. Stefan Frauscher, CEO for marketing and sales comments: “Electric drives are increasingly important: on the one hand, they are increasingly enjoying more social acceptance; on the other, our customers are very happy about the advantages of electromobility, namely that it’s quiet, odourless and reliable. Our boat is perfect as a day cruiser for a relaxed swimming trip, or as a tender for a superyacht to make an excursion to a coastal town.”

The Frauscher x Porsche 850 Fantom Air will measure 8.67m x 2.49m – the same dimensions as the  existing Frauscher 858 Fantom Air class – and accommodate up to nine passengers. The e-boat will also incorporate Porsche’s 800V Premium Platform Electric (PPE) automotive drive technology. The PPE includes a lithium-ion battery of approximately 100kWh plus a permanently excited synchronous electric motor. “The boat can be charged at DC fast-charging stations [and] AC charging is also possible,” Porsche comments.

Studio F.A. Porsche has designed the e-boat’s helm stand, steering wheel and main console with throttle and integrated displays. Other features will include: a central aisle connecting the back end of the yacht to the free-standing helm and cockpit; an aft swimming platform and lounge area with two sun pads; two bimini tops; and an electric anchor winch with a stainless steel anchor.
