Dutch builder Van der Valk says it is on track to deliver its latest motor yacht, Helga, in Q1 2021. The 27.3m loa yacht is the fifth in Van der Valk’s ‘Raised Pilothouse’ series, the previous four models having spanned 25-32m in length. The yard has acted as naval architect for this class, with Guido de Groot supplying interior and exterior designs, and the concept enables owners to select either a large, raised pilothouse, or a smaller pilothouse with larger lounge or flybridge areas.

Customised for family activities, Helga features a waterline length of 20.68m and a 6.25m beam, and draws 1.8m. The aluminium boat incorporates a hard chine hull with a moderate vee, and is powered by two MTU 12V2000 M96L 12-cylinder main diesels, driving Veem NiAlBr propellers, for an estimated maximum speed of 27knots.

Guido de Groot says: “For Helga, we explored in depth the various options for the interior, including the staircase leading up to the wheelhouse. This highly visible part of the yacht was the subject of various design iterations until the owners were totally satisfied.” The dining facilities have been placed in the wheelhouse, to create more space for sofas and chairs within the saloon. The owner and guest suites are situated amidships on the lower deck, while three crew members are accommodated in the forepeak: however, Van der Valk says, Raised Pilothouse customers can opt to relocate these suites to the main deck.

Additionally, Helga's flybridge will house a rowing boat. The yacht will be able to store up to 8,500litres of fuel and 1,900litres of water.
