Acta Marine has taken delivery of a new walk-to-work construction support vessel, produced by Ulstein Verft for a complement of up to 120 offshore technicians, and predominantly intended for offshore wind farm construction and maintenance support work. The 6,050gt Acta Centaurus measures 93.4m (loa) x 18m (moulded) and features a moulded depth of 7.6m and a 5.6m draught. This is the second vessel produced by Ulstein for Acta Marine, following the 2018 delivery of Acta Auriga.
The ship’s cargo areas, both exterior and interior, amount to 1,000m² of space, split evenly between the weather deck and main deck, which feature load capacities of 250tonnes and 650tonnes respectively. The ship also features a container skidding system, spread over two deck levels. Handling of cargo has been organised in a centralised manner, Ulstein says, with the lift designed in a step-free fashion, to facilitate personnel/cargo transfers in significant wave heights of up to 3m.
The vessel also features a helideck with a maximum load capacity of 7.5tonnes. SMST also supplied the vessel’s 3D motion-compensated knuckle boom crane, which can handle up to 6tonnes with compensation and 20tonnes without compensation.
Acta Centaurus is powered by two 1,700kWe and two 940kWe diesel engines. The vessel is also equipped with: a pair of 1,500kW stern thrusters; a tunnel bow thruster, rated 1,040kW at 1,200rpm; and two swing-up thrusters on the bow, each rated 880kW at 1,800rpm. The vessel can maintain a maximum speed of 13knots. Ulstein estimates that, in DP mode, the vessel will consume about 3.3tonnes of fuel daily.
