Following the success of the first conference carried out last year about naval architects and marine engineers spanning the last four centuries, we proudly announce the sequel. This second instalment delves deeper into the contributions of numerous individuals who have played pivotal roles in advancing shipbuilding on a global scale. Hailing from diverse backgrounds, including English, Spanish, French, Indian, and American people, these dedicated professionals-whether navy officers, scientists, shipbuilders, or engineers-have collaboratively shaped the trajectory of maritime science.

The rich tapestry of the global history of naval architects and marine engineers unfolds across centuries and continents, underscoring a collective dedication to advancing maritime technology. Since the 15th century, these professionals, encompassing navy officers, scientists, and engineers, have been integral in influencing the worldwide evolution of shipbuilding.

The age of exploration marked a pivotal era, driving the imperative to navigate uncharted waters, which, in turn, spurred the development of navigational tools and enhancements to ship design. This period witnessed the establishment of global industries, including logging, rope manufacturing, rigging and sail production, and tar processing.

Throughout history, individuals from various nations have made substantial contributions to the field of maritime science. While specific names may vary, the combined efforts of these professionals have left an enduring imprint on the discipline.

The institutionalization of marine engineering education, coupled with the formation of engineering corps and academies, has been a consistent theme across different nations. These initiatives underscore a shared acknowledgment of the pivotal role that formalized education plays in advancing the expertise of naval architects and marine engineers.

As we recognize the global contributions that have shaped maritime progress, it is crucial to acknowledge the countless individuals whose innovations collectively propel the technology and knowledge of naval architecture and marine engineering on a worldwide scale.
